CUPCAKES!!!!!!!!!!!

So we had an extra cake decorating class this week and we decorated CUPCAKES!  It was so fun!  We learned different flowers and it was really awesome to have the little cupcakes to practice on before you actually do a cake!  We learned how to do a pompom flower, a shaggy mum, and some drop flowers!  There are so many things that you can do with just icing it is absolutely amazing.
Here is a picture of my 12 cupcakes from last night:

It was so much fun!  I keep bringing my creations to work and having my coworkers eat them.  It is a much better plan than eating them all myself or having my roommates help me eat them!  HAHA!  I would get kicked out for sure!

This weekend is going to be pretty low key.  Mainly creating for the craft show on December 3rd, and finishing up a few other half finished projects.  It should be nice to have a low key weekend before Thanksgiving.  There is also the big Montana rivalry game this weekend, the infamous Cat Griz Game!  All I have to say about that is GO GRIZ!  Should be a great weekend!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Cake Decorating Class #2

We made a rainbow cake!  It was super fun!  I used Betty Crocker’s Rainbow Chip cake mix for the base and filled it with a cream cheese filling from a local cake store here in Billings.  At class we learned how to ice a cake, including smoothing out the icing, how to transfer a pattern, and how to make a border.  It was so much fun!  This class rocks!
Here is a picture of my rainbow cake:

Tonight we are having an extra class this week, so we do not have to push our classes into December, because the last week our instructor is going to be celebrating her 30th wedding anniversary in Hawaii!  How impressive is that?! 30 years of marriage and still going strong!  That is awesome!  So tonight we are going to be decorating cupcakes and learning some simple flowers!  I am so excited to learn the flowers and how to fill the cupcakes!  HOORAY!  My cupcakes were made out of the same cake mix that I used for my rainbow cake.  Luckily I had made the extra into cupcakes!  I am really excited for tonight!  It should be tons of fun!  I will try to remember to bring my real camera to class tonight that way I have more than cell phone pictures to share with you and can get a little more detailed in what we are doing!

I strongly suggest if you have a Michael’s craft store close to you, check in and see if they have Wilton Cake Decorating classes available to you!  It is so worth it to be able to learn all these cool skills that you can use any time you need to bake a cake!  Who knows it could be that hobby you have just been looking for.

I hope you guys love hearing about my cake decorating experiences!  I also hope that I am inspiring you to try something new!  You never know you may just find something you LOVE!  Are you guys trying anything new?  Let me know!

Cake Decorating Preparation

I have my second Wilton cake decorating class tonight so last night I had to get everything prepared for class tonight.  This includes making an 8 inch round cake and using the remaining cake batter to make cupcakes.  Then you have to make the decorator’s icing.  Let me tell you this icing is NOT the least bit healthy, it is almost purely vegetable shortening (Crisco) and powdered sugar, there are a few other ingredients but that is the majority of it.  However, it tastes good surprisingly enough.
We are making a rainbow cake tonight so we had to color our frosting as well.  We had to make light blue for the sky and then 4 other colors for the rainbow itself.  I will have to post a picture of the finished cake but here is a picture of my colors:

I love this class!  I am learning so much and it is one of those skills that I will use for the rest of my life I imagine.  My kids will have the best homemade decorated cakes ever!  HAHA!

Now I need to get creating for the next craft fair on December 3rd.  The last craft fair I sold so much inventory that I really need to get busy making more for the next one.

I hope everyone is doing well, have you guys started any new adventures?  I would love to hear about them!

Christmas at the Crossroads

Yesterday I participated in a craft show at the King of Glory Lutheran Church in Billings, Montana, and it was a SUCCESS!  I was very pleased with how everything went.  I met a ton of people and I got invited to do another show on December 3rd at the Shrine Auditorium in Billings as well.  This was pretty awesome considering I do not have very much inventory left after this show!  I am going to have to get busy if I am going to be able to do this next show.  I am quite excited to know that my work has caught the eye of others enough to be invited to even more shows!  Not to mention all the wonderful people who actually bought stuff this weekend.

At first things were a little slow and then they picked up and died down again, though the show only went from 9am – 2 pm.  Just the perfect amount of time I think.  The next one goes from 9am – 8pm.  This could be interesting.  There were a few things I noticed people saying over and over again.  1) I make cards as well, yours are awesome but I just can’t buy them (thinking but you will steal my ideas) and 2) they are really cute! And then they walk away without a purchase!  So crazy!  There was another lady there that was selling cards as well, she said she was not really successful.  So I guess more people were buying my cards instead of hers, so that is a plus I guess.

How was your guys weekend?  Did you have any fun craft shows that you were in or attended?  What other adventures were happening?  Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Adventures in Cake Decorating

Well Tuesday night was tons of fun.  It was really fun to learn all the basics of how to bake the best cake, how to fill a cake, make smooth frosting, how to make frosting, etc.  You never really realize how much work goes into something until you give it a go yourself.  I now truly respect the cost of a well decorated cake.  That has been the major eye opener so far, the cost of getting everything you need to be able to do a quarter of what these professionals are able to do!  But in the end, I could be one of these professionals so that is kind of cool and exciting!
There are 7 people in our class this round.  All but one person is mother-daughter, so that is kind of cool.  My mom is a natural at this stuff!  I was really impressed with her stars on her cookies last night.  Sorry I do not have a picture of her cookies to share, probably best! HAHA!  I’m excited for next week!

Tuesday night we decorated cookies after she went through all the basic stuff of making the icing and filling the bags and such.  So that was fun. Here is what my first cookies look like:

Next week we are actually doing a cake, which means that we have to bake a cake for class, make the icing; mind you it also needs to have 5 colors plus the plain white.  This could get interesting.  It is super fun though and if you get the chance I highly suggest that you look into taking a class.  It is a little expensive to get started, but what new hobby isn’t?  I cannot wait to show you my progress through this new adventure in my life.

Now I need to practice my new skills and prepare for the craft fair this weekend.  I still have quite a bit to do for that as well.  Never a dull moment in the life of a working crafter I suppose.

Is anyone else out there trying a new craft/hobby?  What are you guys trying?

I’m Trying My Hand At…

…Cake Decorating!!!  It should be really fun!  I am super excited to try my hand at this new experience.  It starts tonight at 6:30pm mountain time at Michaels.  My mom and I are trying this new adventure together.  It is pretty exciting.  We went and got our materials for the class on Sunday and that night I felt like a child getting ready for their first day of school.  I was putting all my tips, decorating bags, nails, etc in my new case and getting everything ready to go for the first day!  Yeah, I am just a little excited!

In other news, I will also be doing a craft fair this weekend at the King of Glory Lutheran Church on Grand Avenue in Billings, Montana.  It’s my first official craft fair and I am also super excited for that as well!  I hope to see you all there as well!

Hope everyone is having a great day and I will try to get pictures of my Denver trip up soon.  I have to admit I have not even downloaded them myself.  Yeah, I have been a little busy getting ready for new adventures and the craft fair!

Stay Tuned!

XOXO,
